Anthro Mammals, meet Anthro Bugs!

Summary:

When Hornet stumble across a tunnel to the surface, she is astounded by the beauty of it all. She then meets two creatures she's never seen before...

Chapter 1

Chapter Text



Hornets POV




“Hornet! Slow down!” Tiso shouted.

 

Begrudgingly, Hornet slowed her pace, softly hissing, “Hurry UP Tiso, you said you'd be able to keep up.”

 

“I know I did, but I kinda forgot just how fast you walk,” Tiso huffed, “Why did you come screaming bloodymurder into my house at THE MIDDLE OF THE NIGHT, SOAKING WET!?

 

Hornet stops abruptly causing Tiso to run into her. Hornet snarled, and Tiso bared his fangs back. “Look,” Hornets whispers, pointing at what she found a few hours earlier…

Hornet was hunting in Greenpath, looking for any Mosscreeps or Squits that she and Tiso could eat. She found a fair amount of them near where she fought Ghost a few years ago. Looking around, she decided to grab some foliage for the non-carnivorous bugs in Dirtmouth. Hornet doesn't know which plants are edible, so she just starts grabbing different looking mosses and leaves. Hornet started tugging at some plants with some thick stalks and large leaves, but they were stuck. This puzzled Hornet because plants in Hallownest grew on or in small cracks of rocks, and tore off easily. These plants seemed to be IN the ground.

 

Growling in annoyance Hornet drew her needle and cut down the stupid looking plants, and was completely blinded by a sudden pale yellow light. Recoiling in shock, Hornet steps back hissing in pain.

 

What is this?! The Infections back? But Ghost killed her! I need to see what's making this so I can end it before it hurts my family!

 

Gripping her needle, Hornet cautiously sneaks out into the light, ready to kill whatever could hurt her family. A few steps showed that the ground was cushiony giving away slightly. Looking down the ground looked soft, wet, and brown instead of the hard, grey, stone making up Hallownest. Hornet stares in confusion and bends down to touch it. It feels…healthy. Puzzled as to what this brown stuff is, Hornet lets it fall through her fingers and continues her careful search. Slowly, the foliage gives way and finds a sight unfamiliar to her: A huge body of dark water surrounding an off-white shore. The water seemed to go on forever. Gasping in awe, Hornet walks out of the bright green plants and into the beautiful light only for her feet to sink a few inches into the grainy white stuff. This white stuff had a rough yet somewhat soft texture and it was hot. Not the blistering heat she made to punish.

 

Hornet walked to the shore. Instead of it being a small ledge like Blue Lake, the water lapped on the shore going on and off again in small white waves. Huh weird. There's a huge round green thing floating just off the shore. Intrigued, Hornet stalks towards this strange object, needle at the ready. The water lapped at her knees, making her cloak wet. Hornet hops up through the large gap at the front, finding it to be hollow inside, aside from some chairs and several items she has never seen before.

 

Stepping inside, she picked up a strange object. It was orange withs two orange cylinders attached. It was hard and sounded empty. Hornet wanted to open it though, so she started biting at it. Her fangs punctured it easily, but a loud sound came from it. Hornet screeched and tumbled out of the thing and into the water.

 

The water stung her eyes and soaked through her carapace. Hissing in annoyance, Hornet struggled up and swore in the Deepnest language she hardly knew. Turning to explore more of this strange yet beautiful place, Hornet stopped when she saw a brown and an orange figure staring at her with wonder, fear and excitement. Hornet froze, tense and ready to run at a moment's notice or attack when necessary. The figures stood there whispering, the orange one looked ready to pounce on her, while the brown one looked fascinated by her appearance. Why? They're the ones that look weird!

 

The orange thing said something and charged at her. Growling, Hornet swung her needle and took off in a sprint towards the dark hole she came from.

Tiso looked at where she was pointing and gasped loudly. Hornet clapped the back of his head, “Do you WANT to give our position away?” she hissed.

 

“No, obviously not!” Tiso hissed back, then more quietly, “besides that, what is this place?”

Octonauts POV



Kwazii has never seen a creature like that before! Calico Jack never spoke of creatures with pale white horns speaking in weird clicking and whistling noises. And what was it holding? It was sharp, that's for sure. When it swung it at him, the blade nearly nicked his brow, instead cutting through his cap, leaving a near invisible cut behind.

 

“Kwazii! Are you ok?” Shellington frantically asked.

 

“Aye mate!” assured Kwazii, “Have you seen one of those creatures before?”

 

Shellington shook his head, “No Kwazii, I have never seen a creature like that before.”

 

“Ahh it must be a new Sea Monster!” Kwazii exclaimed excitedly, “And I’ll be the first to discover it and a fight that will go down in pirate history!” Kwazii instantly fantasized how this fight would go down. Maybe he'd get a cool scar to show off! He'd love to show new, young pirates it and tell the tail! Of course Kwazii would never kill this creature, that was what his granddad taught him.

 

“Are you sure you want to fight it?” Shellington questioned, “It had a weapon, meaning that this creature is intelligent, and it's probably territorial.”

 

“Ah it can’t be that bad, besides it missed me!” Kwazii dismissed with a wave of his paw.

 

“Barely!” This is both great and concerning at the same time. Great because he might have discovered a new species. Concerning because this species might be hostile. Shellington saw how fast and hard that red cloaked creature swung its weapon at Kwazii. “We need to be careful here Kwazii, you scared it and it might have friends.”

 

“Aye, let's go back to the Gup-E and report to Captain Barnacles”

 

Shellington nodded and followed Kwazii back to the gup his mind reeling over what transpired. When he got to the gup he saw Kwazii holding one of their extra oxygen tanks, with what looked like a puncture mark on its side. Actually, it looks more like a bite mark.

 

“Yah think that creature thought it was food?” Kwazii asked out loud.

 

“Yeah that's probably why it was stumbling out of the water,” Shellington speculated, “When it ‘popped’ it the air that hissed out must've started it, and made it stumble out of the gup.”

 

“Maybe.” Kwazi said as he pressed buttons to close the windshield and start the Gup-E up. Kwazii, despite his earlier tone, sped away from the shore and made a reckless bee-line towards the Octopod.

 

Chapter 3

Summary:

Tiso tells hornet that they are on the surface now.
The core 3 OCTONAUTS try to talk to them but Uh Oh! What are they even saying?

HOLLOW CREWS POV

 

 

 

 

 

“What is this place?” Tiso wondered out loud.

 

“That's the point!” Hornet hissed quietly, “I don’t know, so we need to be careful.”

 

“Careful, got it!” Tiso says while running out into the open.

 

“Tiso! Get back here!”

 

“Sorry, Princess, can’t hear you!” Tiso shouted behind his shoulder, "I'm too busy being careful!” Tiso sauntered toward the shore chuckling to himself. Why's the air so salty? Also, why's it so bright, it's supposed to be the middle of the night! Oh wait, ohhh I know where we are!

 

Tiso studied his surroundings, turning in place. Hornet was struggling to walk in the soft sand. It was a funny sight. They were on a beach with some tall vegetation in the center. 

 

“Tiso! Get over here!”

 

“Prinsess, do you know where we are?”

 

“No, obviously not,” grumbled Hornet as she trudged up to Tiso.

 

“You know, that actually makes sense,” Tiso wondered to himself, considering the fact that she lived underground for her entire life.

 

“What's that supposed to mean?” Hornet asked angrily.

 

“Nothing, Princess,” Tiso held his hands up to show he meant no offense. Then Tiso took a few steps back and spread his arms wide. “Welcome to the surface, Hornet.”

 

 

 

 

OCTONAUTS POV

 

 

 

 

“It seems you and Shellington were right, Kwazii.” Captain Barnacles mused.

 

“Aye Cap, but there looks to be another one with it.” Kwazii observed, “Never seen that one before.”

 

“They have weapons too,” worried Peso, “How are we going to let them know that we won’t hurt them? Kwazii almost got cut by the red one earlier."

 

“Ahh, I be fine matey,” Kwazii shrugged, “I would've been able to take it on!”

 

“Kwazii, I would rather you not fight these new creatures.” Captain Barnacles said, slightly annoyed.

 

“Aww come on Capin? Where's yer faith in me?” Kwazii teased.

 

Captain Barnacles rolled his eyes, smiling at the tease.

 

“We’ll approach slowly so as to not spook them, and try to talk to them to see if they need help. No sudden movements or sounds,” Captain Barnacles planned.

 

Peso gulped, but nodded while Kwazii nodded enthusiastically.

 

“Alright.” Nodding once, Barnacles stepped out into view with Kwazii and Peso trailing close behind.

 

“Good morning new creatures! My name is Captain Barnacles, and this is Peso and Kwazii,” Barnacles introduced with Peso and Kwazii nodding when their names were announced. Immediately once Barnacles spoke, the insect-like creatures jumped into defensive poses.

 

“Woah! We're not going to hurt you,” Barnacles quickly says, “We are the Octonauts, we are here to see who or what you are since you might be a new species.”

 

The two creatures looked at each other. They started speaking to each other, though the Octonauts couldn't understand it. It wasn't a language the three of them knew, which is a problem because there's now a language barrier.

 

“Capin, I don’t think that these creatures can speak our language.” Kwazii observed. A language barrier. Great. How are we supposed to tell these creatures that we don't want to hurt them?
