Chapter Text

After three days under close observation for a concussion, Buck was finally discharged from the hospital.

He hadn’t really spoken to anyone from the 118 during his stay—apart from Bobby.

And speaking of the devil, Bobby came rushing through the door, face flushed like he’d just run a marathon.

He nearly falls over. You can tell he is worried because his chest is heaving and you can see his heart rate pounding out of his chest.

“Bobby, are you okay?” He says now panicking.

“I think you should sit down, son.” he says, his voice now shaking and shallow.

Panic suddenly rises in Buck’s chest.

The walls feel like they’re closing in, squeezing tighter with each breath as his heart races uncontrollably.

“U-mm, yeah, s-sure,” he stammers, voice trembling.
“Is it athena?” He asks scared.

“No son it is not but it's even worse.” Bobby says his eyes wide as if someone had just told him that he is wanted for something.

“W-what is it?” Buck stutters, his breath catching in his throat.

Bobby looks grim, his jaw tight. “It’s Jeffrey. We can’t find him. We think he’s after you… or Athena.”

“What?!” Buck’s voice cracks, disbelief turning into raw fear. He stumbles back a step, then suddenly spins around and slams his fists into the wall—again and again—until his knuckles split open, blood smearing against the plaster.

“Buck! Stop!” Bobby rushes forward, grabbing Buck’s wrists gently but firmly, holding them down at his waist. Buck struggles, wild-eyed and trembling.

“Hey, hey, look at me,” Bobby says softly but urgently, grounding him. “We’re going to get to the bottom of this. You’re not alone.”

Buck’s chest heaves as he starts to come down from the spiral, his hands still twitching in Bobby’s grip.

Bobby continues, voice low and steady. “We’re stationing police outside your flat. When you’re working, you’ll wear a vest—non-negotiable. And you won’t go anywhere alone. You’ll have a detective assigned to you at all times.”

Buck’s eyes brim with panic and rage, but also a flicker of something else—trust. He leans forward slightly, resting his forehead against Bobby’s shoulder, silent but shaking.

Buck screams “NO!” His eyes are glassy. His pupils are pin pricked with pure anger.

Athena comes running in and says “Buck you need to calm down or we have no choice but to handcuff you.”

“ I don't need a vest every time I go out or a police escort or a detective because Bobby I quit!” Buck screams and then runs out and slams the door behind him but he's stopped by Lou Rasnone.

Lou hears over the radio not to let Evan Buckley leave the hospital by himself and Athena gives Buck’s description as a hit has been put on him.

Buck is running through the hospital not caring that his head is throbbing and killing with pain.

He doesn’t notice he fell into a thick muscled man till they both crashed into the floor with a bang.

Buck's head throbbed more than ever before and his face was flushed with embarrassment.

His voice low mumbled “sorry” and got up.

Lou recognised Buck by the description that was given over the radio he could see vulnerability in bucks eyes.

“Buck, wait I can’t let you leave this hospital.” Lou says worried.

Buck ignores him and starts to sprint but Lou is faster than Buck and more tactical.

They both crash to the floor with a boom.

Buck screams “Get off me!” As he struggles against the hold.

“I can’t do that and you know that” Lou says calmly while holding his hold a bit tighter.

Evan slumps and screams then passes out exhausted Lou carries him like Evan doesn’t weigh anything.

Evan clings more to Lou as they move through the hospital.

Evan wakes up still in Lou’s arms and says “ you can let go of me”.

Lou’s said “absolutely not so you can run out”.

Evan huffs and says “lucky I trust you ransone”.

Lou just laughs and says “ You just met me”.

A few months later Evan is joining the LAPD training program that lasts 6 weeks.

Lou stays with Evan as his own protector Evan becomes fitter and muscular and his voice deepens like he’s just gone through the stages of puberty.

However, not everything was going well with Evan and Eddie; their close bond has somehow drifted apart quickly ever since the tsunami and the lawsuit.

So after Evan gets out of his car still being followed by Lou he nervously knocks on Eddie’s door he waits a couple of minutes so when Evan turns around the door opens.

Eddie says coldly “if it’s not the guy who lost my son in a tsunami and filed a lawsuit against Bobby”. Evan’s face goes pale like ghostly pale.

Evan says “Eddie that was a natural disaster plus who left me when I was crushed by a fire truck leaving me to go to rehab on my own and my recertification test”. His voice grew smaller with each word.

“I don’t care Evan, you make it about you all the time. I don't want to hear why you are here because I have a traumatised child that happened because of you.“ why don’t you go and cry to your daddy”. Eddie snarls slamming the door in Evan’s face.

Evan turns around blinking away tears if only people realised how much everything had affected him.
