Day 4 Sleeping on the couch

Work Text:

Ever since Kagami joined their household things have been…difficult.

It’s not like they don’t get along, because they do. Kagami has been his student for a few years already, since his marriage to cement peace to Madara came to be, really. The boy, eager to be just as cool as Tobirama sensei.

Madara honestly found it all amusing and didn’t see any problems in having Tobirama teaching their clan kids as long as he didn’t deviate them from wanting to learn more suiton jutsu than katon ones (that had been the agreement).

With permission and blessing from the clan head, his husband, a bond developed between them and Tobirama considered Kagami his in all ways that mattered and it was visible to anyone how much he adored the boy.

Then tragedy stuck and Kagami became an orphan. His mom, his last living relative, died on a mission and his favorite student became a shadow of his former self. Tobirama had talked to Madara and they both had decided to bring the boy home with them and raise him as their own.

For months, Kagami still carried the heavy weight of grief with him and it was difficult to manage. Neither adult knew how to help the boy but still they tried by always listening to him, doing activities together and so on.

What really helped was establishing game nights with Kagami. The boy really adored playing board games and he had a quick, smart mind for strategy that even Tobirama was impressed with. It became norm for them some nights after dinner to sit down and play until it was late enough to be the boy’s bedtime.

This time, Kagami fell asleep on the couch in the middle of the game, being more exhausted than they thought he would be after training with his friends all day. There was a smile on the boy’s lips and he looked absolutely adorable like this.

“It’s a shame he won’t be cute like this forever,” Madara comments, his sharingan flashing to store the memory for life.

Tobirama chuckles, “we can only enjoy it as it lasts.”

“Should we leave him here?” Madara wonders. “He’s old enough to go to bed on his own.”

“He is but…” well, Tobirama thinks it wouldn’t hurt to carry their kid to bed just this once.

“You’re spoiling him. I’m blaming you when he starts his rebellious phase.”

“As if. Kagami will be a sweet teenager, you’ll see.”

As Tobirama moves to pick up a heavy sleeping Kagami in his arms, he is stopped by his husband.

“What?” Madara ignores him to kiss the boy’s forehead and whisper a goodnight quietly for him. Tobirama only raises an eyebrow. “And you say I am spoiling him?”

He receives a smirk and ignores his husband in favor of taking the boy to his bedroom. Gently, he lays down Kagami to his own futon and covers the boy with soft blankets. These past few months may have been challenging but he doesn’t regret his choice.

“Sleep well,” he whispers, kissing Kagami’s forehead too.

Really, they both are spoiling him.

“Night, dad,” he hears Kagami saying, to his surprise.

He looks at the boy’s face, still more asleep than not, but with a smile of someone a bit awake too. He could cry right now.

Being called dad…

Oh, he is going to rub this in Madara’s face so much! Ha. He’s the favorite parent, it’s decided.

He looks forward to more game nights and a sleepy Kagami to bed, no matter how many times the boy falls asleep on the couch, he’s spoiling his child from now on.

-.-

The end.
