Chapter Text
Papy had decided to show us to our new rooms after dinner, Classic trailed behind tiredly. The two brought us upstairs, to a hall that had several doors, almost like some kind of inn. At the very end of the hall there were several open doors, empty rooms. Classic gave a lazy grin shrugged. “Pick any room ya want, all of ‘em are empty anyway.”
Papyrus grinned immediately running to check out the available rooms, they were plain old guest rooms. I waited for Papyrus to choose a room before choosing the room next to him. He was thrilled. He jumped up on his new bed as the three of us watched from just inside the doorway, turning to me he suddenly asked “Sans, will you still tell me a story tonight…and stay until I fall asleep?”
I smile warmly, walking over and sitting down next to him. “Of course bro…..always…” He smiled brightly with a tiny ‘nyeh heh’ as he leaned to hug me tightly. I felt myself relaxing a bit, less anxious and defensive. ‘These guys ain’t gunna do anything, not yet anyway…they already would have if they wanted an easy kill.’
I turned over to the two still by the doorway, my mind slowly clicked as I remembered that we should come up with names. I looked back to Papyrus. “We…should come up….with uhh…names…” He looked up at me with a smile. “Well What Do You Think, Brother?” I blink slowly. “Huh…I dunno…”
“I think you should be Bear! Because you remind me of a teddy bear Sans!” I couldn’t resist his excuse etc so I nodded slightly as I tried to process his hurried words. “Wha…what about you…Paps?” The smaller skeleton stopped for a moment think intently.
“Bun!! Because of my favorite story, Fluffy Bunny!” He exclaimed loudly jumping up as he explained. “Plus we match! We’re both fluffy animals!!!” I can’t help but chuckle at his enthusiasm, smiling at him. “Sure bro…why not…”
I shrug before turning to Classic and Papy.
“I guess we’re…Bear and Bun now…”
Classic nods with a grin and Papy chuckles, praising Pap- Bun for his ‘incredible’ naming capabilities.
While Papy and Bun start bonding Classic turns to me browbones furrowed. “So uh… how old are you two anyway?” He sounds like he’s worried. I turn, shrugging simply. “Papyr- er uh Bun is six and I’m nineteen…” He nods slowly, before speaking again. “So now that he’s not paying us any attention… what was your universe like? I- I couldn’t help but notice the similarities to Axe..and just- stars- are you ok? You don’t look healthy…but- your brother he- look I just want you to know whatever situation you were in before that it’s different here. Both of you will be safe and fully taken care of- no matter what…”
I blink, eyelights shrinking in surprise, it was like he knew exactly what I’d done and what I was doing now. “I- uh…I guess ya recognized the dull bones… uh yeah…I assume our situation was very similar to Axe and Sugar based on the uhh… but uh it’s only been a year er so since food started becoming scarce where I’m from…I’ve been able to feed my bro since it started…but it’s not enough… fer both of us…” He nods again now looking concerned.
“So…when was the last… time you ate….?” He mumbled softly, his tone soft and gentle. I found myself puzzled and my browbones furrowed, unsure. “I- I don’t… I- I don’t remember….” I mumbled. “It’s hard to even try…like…I got used to not eating.” I shrug.
This only seems to concern the older skeleton more. He sighs softly and nods. “Okay…. So-“ He cuts himself off with another sigh. “So you deliberately starved in order to feed your brother…?”
I nod again slowly, and the older skeleton turns away, his brow-bones furrowed, I assume because he disapproves. Whatever, I don’t care what these guys think anyway. Papyru- er Bun needed to eat. Simple as that.
