“Excuse me,” Gary tried to rush off again, but stopped and began to hyperventilate. Ray was frozen on the swing, at an impasse. If Gary wasn’t going to come home with him, he didn’t know if Gary would make it anywhere. With another casual bend, Gary threw up on the ground again.
“Okay buddy, come here,” Ray wrapped an arm around his shoulder and stood him upright. “Talk to me; is this just nerves, or do you need to go to the hospital,” Gary shook his head and buried his face in Ray’s shoulder. “Would you be okay if I walked you over to your place to get a bag?”
“I don’t need anything,” his voice muffled into Ray’s jacket and Ray put his hand back in Gary’s hair. “I can’t go back right now.”
“Okay.”
