Dear Miss Granger,
Hello, my name is Scorpius Draco Malfoy. I don’t know if you remember me from when my father brought me to the Ministry Christmas Party last year, but I hope you do.
He wanted me to write a letter to Santa to tell him what I want for Christmas this year, but I’m nine, and I know Santa isn’t real. Besides, Santa can’t give me anything I want for Christmas, because he doesn’t work for the Ministry in the Creatures Department or know my father like you do.
I need someone who works there, because all I want for Christmas is an albino peacock. The Malfoy family used to have a lot of albino peacocks at the manor when my father was growing up, but when my grandfather went away, the Ministry took away our peacocks. My father says that we have to complete a special application to get permission to have them again, and it must be approved by someone at the Ministry. So if you can approve us to get peacocks, I would really appreciate it. I promise that if you do, I’ll take such good care of them.
We still have the aviary where they used to live in the garden, and I spent the fall cleaning it out so it is ready in time for Christmas. I went to Flourish and Blotts and got a bunch of books on them.I have already learned so much about how to take proper care of them.
For example, did you know that a baby peacock is called a peachick? Technically, female peacocks are called peahens. You can tell them apart because only male peacocks have the plume. Apparently, having a big plume makes them more attractive to the lady peahens. My father joked that it's the same for wizards and witches, but I don’t know what he means. He said I’ll get it when I’m older.
I’m sure you know a lot about peacocks, because according to my father, you are the brightest witch of your age. He told me once that you punched him in the face while at school, but that it was okay because he deserved it. He also thinks you are very pretty.
My grandmother keeps telling him to ask you to dinner, but he always says he can’t because he needs to spend more time with me. I wouldn’t mind if he invited you though.
Maybe, if you’re not too busy, you could join us for ice skating next Saturday? He takes me every year, but he sometimes gets sad because my mother isn’t with us. I think that if you came, it would make Father happy.
I never know how to end letters. Grandmother says I should always end with a polite farewell, so goodbye, Miss Granger.
Happy Christmas,
Scorpius Draco Malfoy
