Summary
The people of Twilar are a newly warp-capable species that has caught the eye of the Federation for more reasons beyond its planets' deep, untouched mines and strategic placement along the border of the neutral zone. The Federation wants Twilar as an ally, but the people of Twilar have a very specific criteria for what makes a leadership team functional.
When Kirk and Spock make First Contact, they are immediately thrown into a globally broadcasted questionnaire competition which will decide whether of not the Twilar join the Federation.
Or, alternatively, Spock and Kirk play a high stakes version of The Newlywed Game.

Summary
One year, Kara’s teacher is Miss Roslin, and it changes the universe a little.
She’s eighteen when she gets into the Academy, keeps her chin up instead of head down like you’re meant to. She reads up on all the rules so that she can cheerfully bend them and blows everyone away on the sims and smirks at Adama.
She breaks one more record than him, and it’s not a competition except for the way it totally is.

Summary
They meet Jim in phases, and through him find each other. Once the layers begin to peel back, though, the future bridge crew of the Enterprise finds more than they ever could have dreamed. When the fight to keep him starts in earnest, the cadets and officers of Starfleet begin to learn that not all wars can be won.
Because long before he had friends, Jim had Family, and the Scaretta crime syndicate didn't survive to the 23rd century by letting go of its own.
Jim Kirk will always be a frustration to Spock--even when that's not his name.
