Summary
“Don’t read it,” Damen says, urgently, and he tries to pull Laurent back.
In Akielon and, oddly, Veretian, the wall of the cave says: What does your heart desire?
Laurent already has everything that his heart desires. Everything except- Auguste.

Summary
This is all Auguste's fault, Laurent is sure. He's the one who sent Damianos Laurent's way. Auguste reads his little brother as well as his little brother reads books. It's ridiculous. Endearing, but ridiculous.
A gift for Sinstorage300 on Tumblr, based upon Pacat's comment about Damen being the perfect lover for a younger Laurent.

Summary
Chastillon was filled with the ghosts of Laurent's innocence. It didn't matter. He didn't think of it. He was silent as he rode, and his mind was hard at work on other matters. The plans he had so meticulously been making, he now set about tearing apart and rearranging. Now he was contemplating winning.
His path to the border strewn with pitfalls and traps of his uncle's making and haunted with memories of the past, Laurent is forced into relying on the unlikely assistance of his brother's killer. This is an attempt to examine Prince's Gambit from Laurent's POV.

Summary
"They don't want it to be real," Laurent says. He touches lightly, with his fingertips, where he's written LOVE WINS. "They want us to sell them a fantasy, and they want just enough reality that they can pretend it might happen to them, one day."

Summary
He’s a slim, too-pretty boy of twenty, and the men of this particular underworld talk about him as though he’s an open flame, a sparking engine near a pool of gasoline: volatile, and not to be handled. Kid’s got balls of sheer fucking steel, Damen’s contact said.
Which must be true, because having just lost a race against Damen for pink slips, Laurent looks him straight in the eye and says, “Double or nothing?” in a voice like vodka poured straight from the freezer.

Summary
Laurent was kneeling on the floor before the fire, playing with an intricately painted wooden toy knight. Their uncle sat behind him in a tall-backed chair, reading out loud from a book while idly stroking Laurent’s hair. Laurent was only in a white shirt, the fabric so fine as to be nearly translucent, unlaced at the neck. The firelight was playing over his delicate ivory skin where the neck of the shirt gaped open, laces trailing down haphazardly.
The crackling of the fire, the casual undress, uncle’s hypnotic voice, his fingers tangled in Laurent’s golden hair. It made Auguste’s skin crawl.

Summary
Damianos’ stride is confident. He amps up the crowd, raising his arms and grinning widely. His cheek dimples. Hysterical cheers follow.
Uncle shakes his head. “He’s a complete and utter idiot."
Laurent stares at the muscles in Damianos’ arms, shoulders and calves as his chiton moves. “I think he’s charming.”
Or: five times Laurent thought Prince Damianos was the one, and the one time he was right.

“So,” Damianos says. “Hypothetically. If two people are dating. Two people who both work here. Is that something one or both of them would get fired for?”
