Summary
Zuko closes his eyes and confesses in a whisper, “You don’t know what it’s like, to never feel safe.”
He waits for argument, denial, scorn.
“So tell us.”
Suki’s eyes are as steady as Sokka’s voice, when Zuko gathers up the courage to look at her. They wait, curling protectively around him in a way he’s not experienced since his mother.
Their embrace feels like safety.
So, he does.

Summary
Zuko doesn’t want to play some stupid Earth Kingdom game.
Sokka pouts at him and calls him a jerkbender with no sense of fun. He rolls his eyes and continues petting Momo from his perch sitting against the temple’s pai sho table.
Suki puts her head on Sokka’s shoulder as she hugs him from behind and says he doesn’t have to play if he doesn’t want to. Zuko nods gratefully at her and closes his eyes as he lays his head back against the table.
“If he’s too scared of a little kissing game, well...” Zuko’s eyes shoot open again to glare at her, and she smirks at him with one eyebrow raised.
Damn it.

Summary
“Did you have a bad dream?” Zuko flinched in spite of himself, and he knew Hakoda saw it.
“Was it a nightmare? Do you want to talk about it?”
Zuko stared at the other man. “Why would I tell you?”
The Chief shrugged. “Telling someone can lighten the scariness of a nightmare, and usually kids tell their parents, but you can tell me if you want.”
Zuko remembers running to his mom after a nightmare, how she would hug him and whisper everything was alright.
That had been a lie.

“We’re going to be in disguise! No one will know who we are, okay?”
Zuko lets out a grunt that Sokka assumes is agreement as he checks to make sure they’re still heading the right direction. Suki usually gets her way, after all.
He hears the shifting of fabric and turns around just in time to see Zuko’s expression of horror.
“I’m not wearing a DRESS!”
Sokka smirks as Suki shoves at Zuko’s shoulder. “It’s a warrior’s uniform!”
“Well, it looks like a dress.” Zuko rubs at his shoulder, glaring at her.
