Summary
“You smell different,” Buck blurts out before his brain can catch up.
“What?” Eddie frowns. His cheeks darken, though, one of his biggest tells. Buck must be on to something, then.
Buck leans forward, inhaling deeply. Among the smell of their food, he recognises something that suddenly seems familiar. A rich scent, sandalwood and leather, but something citrusy in there as well. It’s warm and inviting, and it’s not Eddie’s usual scent at all.
“You're wearing cologne,” Buck says, still processing as he talks. “You’re- that’s your fancy stuff, isn’t it?”

Summary
As Eddie sits up, the covers fall away, revealing his body. Buck’s eyes widen as he takes in the sight before him. Eddie is wearing a familiar navy blue hoodie, one that Buck had been searching for weeks. The soft, well-worn fabric hugs Eddie’s shoulders, its colour slightly faded from countless washes.
That’s Buck’s hoodie.
Buck’s mouth goes dry. This is his hoodie, the one he thought he’d lost ages ago. He remembers offering it to Eddie on a chilly evening, but when it hadn’t turned up in the drawer of clothes he keeps at Eddie’s place, he figured he’d been mistaken and had lost it somewhere. But here it is, in the Diaz house. Right here, on Eddie’s body.

Summary
“Hey.” Eddie places a hand on Buck’s knee, thumb rubbing back and forth gently. Even through his thick sweatpants, Buck feels the touch like it’s a hot iron. The touch draws him back firmly to the present. “You didn’t do anything wrong, you know that, right?”
Buck shrugged. Sure, he’d been doing his job. He definitely doesn’t regret pulling Eddie out of the way and catching the blow himself. He just can’t help but think that maybe, if he’d done a better job at diffusing the tension, it wouldn’t have happened at all. Then the man wouldn’t have been arrested. Or maybe if Buck had been more careful, or a better firefighter, or stronger, he could’ve gotten everyone out of their cars without causing more damage. Maybe he could’ve been more capable.
Maybe, maybe, maybe. God, Buck is sick of hypotheticals, and yet he can’t stop thinking in them.

Summary
Buck’s eyes light up as he unearths another game from the pile.
“Clue!” he exclaims, holding up the brightly coloured box. It looks well-loved, but in pretty good shape still.
Hen’s face breaks into a wide grin. “Oh man, Clue? Now that takes me back. I played that all the time in college, kicked ass at it. Karen and I have a set at home as well, we play with Denny sometimes.”
“Really?” Buck asks, his voice filled with a mix of excitement and curiosity. “I’ve never played it, actually. But I always wanted to.”

So what he needs is a new hobby.

Summary
The silence in the loft is deafening, broken only by the occasional creak of the building settling and the soft rustle of pages as Buck absently flips through his book, not taking anything in at all. He hears the occasional hum from the fridge, but that’s it. Sure, he could turn on his television, or some music, but he’s just not in the mood. Some days, the artificial noise only makes him anxious when he’s home alone.
Outside, the wind rages on. Rain lashes against the windows in sheets, creating a constant pattern that should be soothing but instead sets Buck’s nerves on edge. There’s no lightning yet, the storm not expected to fully break for another hour or so, but every little noise has Buck flinching away.
