A cup being placed beside his hand startled him, and he glanced up at the pepper-haired man with a badge touting the fact that he was part of the police. Derek stiffened, his hand curling around his own mug to keep himself from showing any outward signs of distress. What the fuck did Jackson do?
“You’re Derek Hale, right?” Derek inclined his head in response, and he resisted the urge to bare his teeth as the policeman took a seat across from him. The man held up his hands, a smirk playing across his lips as he took a sip from his own to-go cup.
“Just checking to see how Jackson is doing; I heard he wasn’t feeling well. And to pass on a message,” He dug around in his coat, withdrawing an envelope with a wax seal.
“Jackson is doing fine…a message?” Derek flexed his fingers, wanting to grab the note and tear into it, to figure out why the government was getting in contact with him, the seal boasting the Royal Coat of Arms making his stomach drop.
“Yes, it is to my understanding that your petition for permanent residence in the city has been accepted, congratulations.”

Mycroft has built a careful system of predictions to control the beast he calls Greed, always roiling in his chest, driving him to gather power, knowledge and (unfortunately) calories.
