Peter is young and angry; Jim is Earthside and antsy. Peter is haunted by his past in Deneva and Iowa alike, Jim can't find Spock, and at the end of the month, there's a memorial planned for the Enterprise's mortalities. Tensions build, both old and new, as uncle and nephew grapple with their shared grief.

Before Spock can reply, though, before that impossibly slow process of his thoughts can parse the words spoken close to his ear, the other, younger, Kirk arrives, jogging from around the corner of the temple corridor.
“Jim,” Spock all but sighs, the tense line of his shoulder relaxing infinitesimally.
“Jim?” asks Pike.
“Jim?” asks the Kirk in question, head tilting as he considers Spock carefully, confusion wrinkling across his forehead.
“Jim?” asks Lieutenant Kirk, of the George Samuel variety, fingers spasming to flex tight into Spock’s bicep as the pitch of his tone increases.
