Beca Mitchell never intended to learn about the Squip. The information was moreso forced upon her. At a party. An A Cappella party. That she didn't really want to go to in the first place.
"Squip" stands for Super Quantum Unit Intel Processor — apparently. It is essentially a supercomputer. A supercomputer packed into a pill that you can swallow, which then supposedly implants into your brain and speaks to you telepathically. According to admittedly not-so-reliable sources, this "Squip" can teach you how to live life to its fullest potential.
Especially in places like high school or university.
It can teach you how to be cool. How to get things you want — whether that be boys, girls, popularity, or careers. It's like having a cheat code — a cheat code for life itself.
Beca Mitchell never intended to learn about the Squip, let alone get one for herself. But sometimes the universe has a funny sense of humour.
And sometimes, that humour can be maliciously cruel.

From Michael's point of view, Jeremy Heere is just a regular, fairly horny, straight, white highschooler that just happens to be a total freak in the eyes of basically everyone around him, but most of all, Jeremy is his favorite person, and he would do anything to make him happy. He just wished Jeremy didn't have such a big crush on Christine.
From Jeremy's point of view, Michael Mell is so much more than his best friend. He can't stand to be away from him, even if the two have other friends. Their two other best friends, Christine and Rich, both know how Jeremy feels about Michael, but despite their constant support and attempts to convince Jeremy that Michael feels the same, he continues to insist they keep their mouths shut and pretend everything is fine.
In this AU, Rich never got a SQUIP, so he's just kinda another freak of the school, therefore, Michael and Jeremy kinda accepted him and let him hang out with them. Christine is also friends with them, because you CANNOT convince me that nobody thinks she's weird.
