“Suguru?” Satoru’s uncertain uttering met him, the mist in his eyes lifting to reveal the moonlight-enwreathed heron before him, cradling the shivering boy to his white breast, as though to shield him.
“It is still me, Satoru,” Suguru assured him gently despite the hoarseness of his spent voice, “Have you ever needed to be afraid with me?”
Satoru’s trepidatious gaze seemed to soften with the weight of the past shared between them, a sincere whisper breaching his lips, “You were the only safe place.”
Suguru felt a shuddered exhale spilt from him as he sought wearily, “Is that why you came here despite not believing?”

Megumi doesn't like the way he says the word, like it's an inside joke that’s going over his head. He doubts they actually mean dinner, though what they could actually mean is lost on him. Murder, maybe. Hopefully, just murder. Hopefully, they just pull out a knife and gut him instead of torturing him or violating him or whatever else they could mean by ‘dinner.’
Megumi goes home late from a party. There's a reason you shouldn't walk home alone at night.

There’s no mirrors left in this post-apocalyptic world. Suguru knows he’s a sight to behold, from what he can decipher of himself from shards of broken glass he keeps in his pocket. Satoru has always told Suguru to just throw those away — yes, they’re good weapons to use in an ambush, but they’ll end up hurting Suguru more than they’re hurting any zombie. Still, Suguru keeps them as a reminder to never lose his sense of self — despite everything, he’s still Suguru Geto after all — or at least that’s what he tells himself when he tastes iron.

“I thought you two were going to be forever,” was Megumi’s sheltered admission whispered close to his heart, beating itself bloody against the cage of Suguru’s ribs as the boy’s words unfolded a distant memory in the present, a pilgrim from the past wandering through the oceans of time to remind him of its buried existence.
“Because lovers are travellers of eternity,” he had reassured Megumi once, the child half asleep on his chest after a nightmare, soothing murmurs of the tale Suguru had told to console him lingering in the quiet night.
“I am sorry we let you down,” he uttered in the boy’s hair as the memory dissolved in the burdened air, leaving him with a decayed taste of hypocrisy in his mouth.

Maybe younger?The white haired man - let's just say Satoru-san, if he ever had now to speak to him, sixteen-year-old Suguru Getou decided in his own thoughts - had eyes that were sky-blue. And more than a little feral right now. Scary. Terrifying, truly. But also comforting, because very visibly and palpably wholly alive.
