He’s a curse to those who get close to him, used to people breaking down his barriers before leaving or dying in some horrific manner. He’s kept a count, reasoned it down to a science.
So when Shisui dies and Itachi leaves, the first thought that came to his mind was simple—
Ah. It happened again.
But when Shisui returns a week after the Uchiha Massacre, banged up, yet still breathing, Kakashi begins to wish he'd actually stayed dead.
