Five just wanted to stop the apocalypse, travel back in time and fix his sister before she could become the destroyer of worlds. He didn't stop and consider the idea that they could end up in a different dimension. And he especially didn't think the people he would be stuck with would be his junkie of a brother and his dead brother's ghost. But here they were.
Might as well save this dimension as well, since they have the time.
In which Five is addicted to the apocalypse, Klaus is not having a good time, Ben is tired of their shit, and Tony Stark is really fucking confused.

I am loath to admit it… but the idea shifting within my mind is perhaps not so ridiculous after all. That perhaps growing closer to Coco Bandicoot could hold more than simple logic can dictate. More than I can calculate with my mind.
And far more than my heart can decipher.

Time was a fickle thing. Immortality made that even more so. This was not the first time they'd crossed paths, far from it, really. This, however, was the first time in a very, very long time. So how was it possible? Watson knew a lot of things, and among them was the fact that Karl Jacobs had died a very long time ago. Yet there he was, clear as day.
Or:
Karl... wasn't exactly sure how this had happened. How he'd been pushed away from everything he thought he knew. Sure, the life of a time traveler was a life of risks- but he usually had some idea what to do next! Now, though? He was stuck one hundred years in the future with the only person he knew being... Summary
His mistake, in making the last jump, is probably a lack of conviction. Lack of decision, of certainty. He knows at least the outline of the consequences—clip all the branches—and he’d promised, or else, implied he’d uphold the gravity of the thing. The significance.
He never said he wouldn’t make new branches. He never said.
He’s not sure if he knew he was lying, at the time. He’s not sure if lying by omission counts, if he believes that it counts, and if he does, he’s not sure if that’s new. For him. He doesn’t know what he was expecting, either; isn’t absolutely sure what he was aiming for. Just that this?
This isn’t it at all.
“You’re a long way from home, aren’t you?”
Steve spins on his heel, weight immediately poised for a fight. But then he realizes the voice came from the ground, where a man sits, an unnatural shade of violet pooled around him, with the whittled core of an apple in his hand.
Or: Steve Rogers' final leap through time runs afoul of the very end of exactly that—time. Pesky thing that it is.

Bookmarker's Notes
“You, Steven Grant Rogers, will have to be found.”
It sounds like a promise. Like a threat. Like a balm and a sword waiting to fall on his throat. It feels like missed opportunities, the obvious at his feet that he’d stepped over, trounced on without realizing. It feels like the things his pulse has been trying to beat out, and he never listened. Never thought it was talking to him, at all.
Steve as no fucking idea what to do wit hit.
“I hope wherever you’ve left your heart, that they notice where their home is,” the man shakes himself, and the cape he’s wearing look imposing, magical for the rippling in a way Steve’s never seen—and he’s seen his share of capes. “Or at least notice more than you’ve managed on your own.” It’s an insult, or at the least a judgement, but Steve deserves it. And it doesn’t sound unkind.
The man strides with purpose; Steve thought he did that, but watching this man, Steve thinks he’s maybe always fallen short, has always been kidding himself; it’s casual when the man tosses over his shoulder a killing blow, just an afterthought:
“Did they make you their home, too, just the same? Do you think?”
