Just as he was getting used to his new position as the commander of the Inquisition’s army, a massive upheaval came when Cullen met—under perhaps some of the worst circumstances two people could hope to meet—Aridhel Lavellan, the only other survivor of the Inquisitor’s clan following their grim fate in Wycome.
A fate sealed with Cullen’s poor discernment in the matter. If this was the Maker’s will, he must have the cruelest sense of humour.
But now, he was growing used to Aridhel's company as well. Far too used to it, maybe.
At Felan’s behest, Aridhel had stayed on with the Inquisition, and thereupon became a sharp thorn in Cullen’s side. That irritation eventually dulled with time, and they’d forged an unusual camaraderie. His fighting prowess proved a boon to the Inquisition’s army, and Cullen…well, he found he quite enjoyed running their soldiers through drills with Aridhel by his side.
He wasn’t sure when his feelings deepened past tenuous friendship, nor what he should do about it, if anything at all. Cullen was not even certain whether what he was feeling was merely confused admiration for the man, guilt, or something more than a passing infatuation.- Language:

As much as Phel is enjoying the peace that comes with the end of the Inquisition, he is reluctant to admit that he’s rather lonely now that nearly everyone has left Skyhold, leaving the fortress silent and mostly empty.
There have been a few stragglers — some unexpected, a few expected — Sera, who is waiting for her next assignment and a plan, right? to whisk the elf away somewhere far and less…. mopey, yeah? Cassandra is preparing her voyage to rebuild the Seekers — Krem and some of the Chargers linger and decorate the booths of Herald’s Rest.
And Commander Cullen, strangely enough, has not yet made the departure to Ferelden, for some reason — despite having no reason to stay in Orlais — haunting the stone halls like some pale, Ferelden ghost.
Regardless, for many — including Ahstrophel’s beloved — ‘country of origin’ and ‘where they needed to be’ end up being one and the same.
A place that proves far, far away.
