Summary
Kevin is a human teenager who spent his adolescence trapped in nightfall, where the neverseen forced him to train to become a super soldier as part of their growing army of humans who can kill without guilt. But when one of Vespera's experiments on Kevin goes awry, giving him the power to control quintessence, he immediately escapes with his friend, Emily. Things go south from there.
Meanwhile, Dex, Biana, Marella, and Jensi find out about a human with mysterious powers who broke out of Atlantis and poses a serious threat to the lost cities. But when they try to tell the others, everyone else is too caught up in a new plan the neverseen has, which smells suspiciously like a trap. But the two problems might not be so different. Typically, things go even further south from there.
Or, the author wanted to write lots of fluff with little plot, but ended up writing lots of plot with little fluff. >:(
