Summary
Eleven days have passed since Christmas Day, and Galen, Vivianna, Rosie, and Harper are skating on the frozen pond near the Wakefeld home.
When the ice breaks the children shriek from cold and fear as they sink into the water.
When they manage to surface again they find themselves in a strange world that is nonetheless familiar.

Summary
July, 1947: A tragic accident in the London streets results in the untimely death of 14-year-old Lucy Pevensie, leaving her family reeling and grief-stricken. Peter and Edmund are invited to stay with Aunt Polly, along with the other remaining friends of Narnia, an attempt at offering some relief. Together, the friends of Narnia grapple with one of life's hardest questions: the Problem of Pain.
May, 1947: Due to the sudden on-set of crippling anxiety in the form of intrusive thoughts regarding morality and religion, Lucy is sent home early for the summer holidays. Peter attempts to understand the source of her illness and offer relief.
A story of suffering, grief, and redemption while the comforts of Narnia seem far behind, but the lessons are close at hand.

Summary
Carter has been missing for thirteen days when a rusted white truck, the bed of it full of Mai-Mai soldiers, pulls in front of the clinic. Luka stands in the doorway, hands freezing where they're still tangled in the towel he was using to wipe them. As he watches, the truck slows in its drive-by, but doesn't stop. One of the soldiers catches Luka's gaze and holds it, his expression unreadable, as he and another throw open the tailgate and a body is unceremoniously rolled out to tumble to the ground in a tangle of limbs and a cloud of dust.
The truck speeds away, and Luka stands frozen.
The man on the ground is white, his build familiar even with the apparent loss of weight.
"Is that…" Angelique has pressed herself against his back to peer over his shoulder.
Luka nods vacantly, unable to force words past the dread in his throat.
