Summary
Draco never asked to survive the war. It wasn't part of his plan to have to continue going afterwards, through the trials and the repercussions and having to go back to Hogwarts despite nobody wanting him there. What's the point of it anyway, when the wizarding world will never again respect him? Death would have been more agreeable.
Then Harry shows up with a badly sewn heart. Then he shows up with an extra essay. Somehow, he forces himself into Draco's life, and then forces the rest of his friend group into Draco's life, and maybe living can feel a lot less like one long stretch of waiting for nothing.
Finally feeling the calm after the storm comes with its own set of issues, though. Namely having to deal with the feelings he's not meant to deal with.

The war had ended, Hogwarts had been rebuilt and everything had returned back to normal. But to Harry, — and most — there never was no ‘normal’ and never will be. Having to be in flight or fight to survive for more than 7 years inflicts trauma that could never be fixed. The war hero has saved the world, but could he save himself from himself?
After the devastating war, his thoughts about Draco Malfoy, who he swore was his rival of many years, began to change. Yet, to make amends is quite challenging.
And so, where it all starts, all 7th years had the opportunity to attend an additional year.
