Summary
After the events of Transformers: Prime, Starscream is beaten to near-death by Predaking, leaving him completely blind. When a ground bridge suddenly opens in front of him, Starscream takes the chance at rescue and crawls through, only to find himself on the Nemesis with the remaining Autobots. Supplies are limited, and Starscream is forced to live without optics until a suitable replacement set is discovered or built from scratch. Alone, blind, without a leader to serve (or overthrow), or even a war to fight anymore, Starscream is left completely powerless for the first time, having no choice but to submit to the Autobots or take his chances on the ruins of Cybertron. Optimus Prime is dead, but the Autobots honor his spark by giving the seeker one final chance to change his ways, as they know he would have. Starscream, stripped of all of his power, is forced to face what is left, finding nothing but a husk of the mech he was before the war. Is it truly possible to change after losing so much? Or is he doomed to repeat his past mistakes?

I can still remember the blood staining my skin. The fear in her eyes. The way my ears rang after the bomb went off. His hands tarnishing my body. The buzzing of fluorescent lights. The caress of scalpels against unwilling skin. The drugs, and the aftermath.
The beeping of medical monitors.
The eyes that watched and the mouths that mocked.
The surgery.
All of a sudden I can hear the snapping of fingers and my eyes dart back to the man infront of me. "Kamada?"
I give him an apologetic smile that doesn't quite reach my eyes. "Zoned out."

"Where is Knockout?" Ratchet growled, clenching his scanner with enough force to make the metal groan under his digits. He was sick of this human's game. The war had already cost Cybertronians enough lives - humans didn't need to add another to the list.
"Oh, you can't hear him?" Silas puffed in near amusement, gloved fingers moving somewhere below the screen, "Here, let me turn up the volume on my side of things."
That was the last word he spoke before the portable scanner's speakers involuntarily increased, and two different spark-wrenching sounds came through. The first was a grinding buzz of overlapping drills and saws, screeching against metal alloys. The second was still a screech, but produced from a vocalizer. The sound was raw and agonizing - screams broken by choked sobs and glitched mechanics.

Summary
The bots acquire a pet. Although, the "canine" in question would argue she is much more than just a "pet"; provided she felt like talking to anyone. Really, explaining things with, y'know, words, might make this adventure less complicated for everybody. Maybe. Probably. Not really.
In which the original character/self-insert eventually decides not to function by the rules of the plot or anyone else's rules. Including the rules of being a typical, human self-insert... potential physics-breaking, universe-bending consequences of that be fragged.

This is just me playing around and indulging in my childhood fantasies, nothing to see here. Chapters centered on original characters with little-to-no bot interaction will be labelled in the pre-chapter notes. It's slow to start and somewhat disjointed, so feel free to ignore the OC stuff until it becomes plot crucial.

“It’s not a burden. Not if it’s you. Not if it’s this team.” Burden felt too strong of a word. Too brutal for what was actually going to be taking place. Optimus was a pillar of strength and comfort and heart, the glue that kept these wandering souls together. To call befriending him as something so vile felt intrinsically wrong and you weren’t going to stand for it.
If you were going to do this, you were going to do it right. No half-assing anything, fear and terror be damned. No matter what it was, you were willing to find a way to help end this conflict.
