Summary
Mr. Harcourt’s “suggestion” to jump into the Potomac had been a mockery, Milo knew, but in the moment, Milo hadn’t had any other ideas. He’d silently taken up the coin and his ruined resignation form and gone to the closest trolley stop.
That's when things get... interesting.
After helping strangers Miguel and Tulio -and their horse and armadillo- out of the river, Milo learns they're from another time and place. With no way to help them back, Milo offers an alternative: travel with him to find the Shepherd's Journal. Miguel, always eager for adventure and mystery, and Tulio, wary but intrigued by the possibility of finding more treasure, accept.
Their journey is kick-started when Milo discovers the Shepherd's Journal, mysteriously left for him by his grandfather. The trio set off in a hastily bought steamboat, ready to swim to Atlantis if necessary.
Elsewhere, Mr. Whitmore wishes he was a little more direct in giving Milo the Journal when Milo goes missing.
