Summary
Bruce Wayne knows that trust is a rare currency in Gotham. Cynicism is the natural state of things for the world’s greatest detective. But after rescuing Gotham’s kidnapped deputy mayor from the Joker, Bruce has to come to terms with the fact that there are other people in the city just as stubbornly committed to saving it as he is— and that they can be trusted to make the right calls. Mallory Stone, attorney-at-law and eternally annoyed with Bruce Wayne's playboy antics, is one of those people.
Working with her as Batman to untangle the bloody web of the Court of Owls should be easy— it was supposed to be just one investigation, one lead, one clean ending to a story that never should have begun. But genres are slowly getting mixed, feelings are growing messy, and Mal is getting a headache. Who the hell signed them up for a political thriller? A detective story? A comedy of errors? A fantasy? A romance? Not Mal, and certainly not Bruce— but they’ll have to live through it anyway.
