Summary
It sits in his chest growing roots in to muscle and bone and sinew behind his ribs and up his throat until it chokes the thoughts and words he's kept buried in his heart out of him. It's lead in his bones and pinpricks on his skin and air trapped in his lungs; oppressive and burdensome and ever present, always present, always always always.
Some days he Doesn't Want To Be Here and by some days he means most days but what other choice does he have? It's not like he can just stop.

Summary
Clark comes back a little bit wrong—or maybe more than a little bit. He poses a danger to anybody close to him, in more than one way. There's only one person he can think of who's learned enough about Kryptonian biology to help him and isn't currently in prison; and Wayne owes him, anyway. At least he won't have to feel guilty about lashing out anymore, if he's doing it at the guy who tried to kill him.
Except "lashing out" doesn't really cover it, after a while—and maybe Wayne's in over his head just as far as Clark is.

"That was," Bruce makes himself say, and then stops. Christ, what word can he use? What adjective is there that acknowledges his trespass fully? "Inappropriate." Inadequate, but it's the best he can do, and Clark needs to hear something, needs to know Bruce recognizes his own mistake for what it is. "I apologize. I—"

“Why me?” Clark can’t help but ask. He tries his very best to keep his voice level, to not sound as desperate as he feels.
“Because I need someone there to watch my back,” Bruce says, a little exasperated. He really shouldn’t have to explain this to Clark of all people, it’s not like they haven’t been on missions together before.

This Clark and Bruce are a little depraved for each other, but neither of them knows.
