    “This will be our end,” he answers finally, his voice hollow despite himself.

    She lets out a chuffing sound, the closest thing she has to a laugh.

    “Did we ever get a beginning?”

    Well. ‘Let’ was a choice word. ‘Let’ implied there was an alternative option he had considered, but ‘Neil’ and ‘considered’ were two words rarely spoken in the same sentence. Neil didn’t consider his actions for much more than a second before following through with them. Where was the fun in thinking things through? He needed the rush, needed the surge of adrenaline, needed the same feeling of being on an exy court every second of the day.
