When Smoker finally comes home, it’s 11:45 and he desperately needs a shower.
He slams the front door shut with the heel of his boot and exhales through his nose, dragging a hand down his face. The air is thick and humid, clinging to him with the stench of sweat, street grime, and motor oil. His patrol car had broken down halfway through shift, and the precinct mechanic gave him a replacement that needed 5 minutes to start.
His shoulders ache. His lower back complaints in motion. There’s a bruise forming on his hip from slipping during a chase that shouldn’t have happened on foot, and all he wants is hot water and silence.
Instead, he hears music.

“Missed me?” came the cheerful, teasing voice of the Fire Fist himself. A warm breeze followed him in, carrying salt as Ace slipped swiftly through the porthole with the confidence of someone who has done this a million times before.
