He would either read the contract through carefully and meticulously, demanding as many changes as he could get away with to give himself the best possible deal before he even considered putting pen to paper. Or, faced with the possibility of freedom from a life he had never really wanted, he would immediately try and disappear.
Somehow, Illya managed to be correct on both counts.

Summary
This series is largely an excuse for me to play with my conception of the Batman universe. My views of these characters were initially shaped by the Timm/Dini-verse, and later by various factoids gleaned from fandom, most recently by the Arrow!verse, and only minimally from the comics themselves. With the result, for example, that Cassandra-in-my-head comes almost entirely from the comics while Tim Drake comes almost entirely from Batman: The Animated Series.

And he did. Over and over again.
And over and over again the TVA knocked him down.
Implied, he (reset endlessly) finally finds a way to thread the needle and make changes the TVA doesn't object to, allowing him to make it back to the modern day without being totally defeated by the experience.
