When the Doctor told her Maestro was back, she was terrified. He said it was fine, said they talked with their father and came to an understanding, said they promised to behave. She trusted him, she did. That did not stop her terror upon seeing them again, in the shop right next to the Toymaker’s.
She dreaded the idea of entering it, and yet, she did. And again, and again, and again. How strange was it, that it was now one of her favourite hanging places?
She doesn’t know when they started to feel safe. They just did. With the Doctor so absent, and her family so worried, and her friends so disbelieving, they had been the only person she could talk to about everything. They did not judge, or fret, or scoffed. They listened, surprisingly well for someone who could be so self-centered. Sometimes, they would even look like they were thinking about comforting her- not that they ever carried through. They would raise their hand, just above her head, like they were contemplating carding their fingers soothingly through her hair. And the hand would brush, lightly, feather-like. It wouldn’t linger. Maestro did not touch, and was always very careful to never, ever be touched either.Series
