Summary
"It’s a beautiful day at the Soltryce Academy—the sky is vibrant and the trees rustle with the gentlest of winds as Caleb begins his impromptu Transmutation lecture outside. From the building on the edge of the grounds he hears a muffled bell tolling for fifth period. Somewhere in the distance, a student begins to whistle.
At that moment, Caleb feels at peace.
At that moment, a Purple Worm bursts forth from the soil directly in front of him, and all of his plans for a pleasant afternoon are promptly dashed."
---
Caleb and Essek have finally settled down - more or less. While the beloved and somewhat eccentric Professor Widogast is busy inciting small student-scale riots and teaching tiny wizards morals, Essek spends his days lounging around the house, drinking wine and experimenting with the exotic concept of 'cooking his own meals'. They are pretty sure life is great - until two pre-teen assassins crash-land into the middle of the Soltryce Academy and demand the former Shadowhand be surrendered to their custody. What are the two internationally in/famous mages to do? The answer will shock absolutely no one.- Language:

Summary
“I… I actually have a favor to ask.”
The reaction at the table was inevitable and it stung. Smiles grew wary and both Beauregard and Veth crossed their arms immediately, Veth sizing him up with a critical look.
“What kind of favor?”
Essek felt the blood shoot into his cheeks- by the luxon, this had been a terrible idea. But it was too late now.“I… my Den’s annual meeting is coming up, and I need a plus one, to put it simply.”
The Nein still all stared at him, brows furrowed.“Is it a political meeting?”, Caleb asked.
“It’s more of a family get-together, to be honest.”, Essek confessed, feeling very sheepish.
“But why do you need someone to go with you?”, Jester asked, scrunching up her nose.
Well, there it was. Essek fidgeted with his sleeve before he replied, as dignified as possible, “Frankly, because I am tired of my family’s burning questions about why I never bring any company.”
The resulting shriek Jester let out made him jump- and not only him it seemed.“You need someone to pretend to be your daaaaaaaate?”

Summary
Essek goes home, and there is no one waiting at his door. This should be some manner of relief. But his towers haven't felt like a safe haven for a long time now, long before errant scourgers appeared to harass him with strange questions. He misses the immediacy of that threat, prefers it over the slow and indulgent terror of whatever punishment is coming for him, someday soon.
He tells himself that he misses only that, the simplicity of being unsafe in the company of predators, and that he does not miss the company itself.
(In which a pair of scourgers shows up at Essek’s doorstep and saves him from himself.)

Seperated by more than distance, Caleb wakes trapped in a cold tower. His parents are still alive and that should be a blessing but none of his friends remember him, especially the Shadowhand who may be his only hope of returning home.

Summary
After the Mighty Nein are done adventuring, they get ready to move onto their lives. However, when a note arrives from a stranger explaining that they are willing to trade the life of Essek in exchange for research stolen from them by the Cobalt Soul, the group needs to act.

Originally inspired by "That Carnivorous Dark" by Cers, I started writing this around the time C3 was started and then abandoned it and I've suddenly been feeling feral and decided to approach it again. Deals with the quest in EGTW by the same name
