    Summary

You didn’t have any superpowers, nor were you even qualified for the position, yet somehow a mishap between Alexei and Yelena ends up in getting you a new job. Bob-sitter.

A/N: Though the synopsis is kind of lighthearted this story discusses topics of depression, poor self image, therapy and suicide. Read at your own discretion.

    Summary

The ocean might be possessive, but so is the sun. And if Poseidon was careless enough to let Perseus out of his sight, well, that wasn’t Apollo’s issue, was it?
But Apollo had witnessed Hades abducting Persephone and the aftermath. He has little desire to replicate that particular story. So, through grit teeth, he lets Percy leave when the sun drowns in the ocean, leaving the sky dark and twinkling with stars.

Perseus could be sure that the next time they met, he wouldn't leave again.

    --

or: Percy is born a god, but that doesn't mean the fates are any kinder. Apollo deserves a treat, doesn't he?

    Summary

"Have you ever heard of Omelas, doctor?"
You pause, brow furrowing in thought. Fiction isn’t really your forte. You give a so-so kind of gesture.
"Story from the seventies or something. Ursula Le Guin right?”
De Fontane smiles that too-big smile again. The one that doesn’t reach her eyes.
“Correct. Omelas is a Utopian city whose safety and prosperity depends entirely on the perpetual misery of a single child. Or person, in this case.”
“Is that the job? Keep a child’s life miserable for the sake of the world?"
“Well, we're not a utopia, that's for sure. And it’s not a child, it’s an adult man."
"So my job, around my other duties, is to keep one guy miserable?"
"Think more beige. Being miserable leads to an entirely different problem.”
    .
If Bob is depressed, the world ends. If Bob is happy, the world also ends. It's your job to make sure neither of those things happen.
In which Reader is hired on as a medic for The New Avengers and completely fumbles the brief.

    Summary

    “What can you do?”

“Well…” you start after a pause that goes on too long. “I am- I am one of the foremost black hats in the country, cracking code is sort of my thing. I’m- Miss de Fontaine wishes for me to become the brain for your operation, handling the technological side of your missions so that you can focus on the physical parts.”

"Is that why you’re not here, then? Keeping your identity concealed?”

“Oh God no! No… I just- I work best from where I am right now.” And nowhere, nowhere else.

    ---

Fourteen months following the void out of Manhattan, Valentina Allegra de Fontaine has you assigned as the newest member of her struggling superhero team. The New Avengers. You serve as their eyes and ears, their brain, and their personal AI in the style of the famous JARVIS, though you lack the cool accent.

Oh, and also you haven't left your home in nearly a decade, so.
