“Heaven is in all black and white, and God is a rude little girl who rides a scooter?” Diego laughs, flipping through the pages of Keechie’s scripture journal. “How did any of those morons actually believe this garbage?”
“Oh, well that part’s true,” Klaus absentmindedly corrects, getting more disinterested by the second because it’s not like he hasn’t heard all these sayings before. Then, he frowns. “Actually, she rides a bike, not a scooter. Not sure how Keechie misheard that part.”
“You’re bullshitting us,” Diego rolls his eyes disbelievingly. “C’mon, Klaus, how stupid do you think we are?”
“I’m really not, though,” Klaus furrows his eyebrows, because didn’t he already tell them this? He can’t remember for sure, but it must have come up at some point, right? It seems to dawn on Diego that Klaus is dead serious about this because a fraction of the humor in his expression disappears.

Summary
Klaus folded his arms across his chest. “Nuh-uh. No way. Sorry, brother dearest, but the only way you’re locking her in there is if you lock me in too.”
“Oh my God,” Ben said from behind him, his tone a mixture of disbelief and admiration. “You’re an idiot.”
Klaus ignored Ben, lifting his jaw obstinately and squaring his shoulders. He fixed Luther with his most intimidating stare. “Your choice, brother mine.”
Luther sighed, annoyance evident in his eyes. “Whatever you want, Klaus.”
His brother stepped back, out of the room – Vanya’s cell (Klaus’ prison), beginning to close the door.
“I’ll check on you later, Klaus.”
(“Three more hours, Number Four.”)
The door shut soundlessly, and Klaus watched, his heartrate accelerating, as Luther spun the wheel of the lock before turning and walking away.
He was trapped.

Klaus refuses to let Luther leave Vanya to wake up alone in a cage. Between the panic attacks and the withdrawal, he doesn't quite manage to play the role of the comforting older brother. Somehow it works out anyway.

Summary
After a month of silence, Diego's girlfriend showed up at 2:00 in the morning on Klaus' doorstep.
"I need your help."
Klaus blinked sleepily at her, still half-asleep and more confused than fearing for his life (considering she'd tried to kill his family). Then his bleary eyes took in the way she was trembling, and the slightly manic glint in her eyes. He noticed the wailing ghosts that were following her and the way she seemed to flinch at their shouts.
("Klaus," Ben would've warned him if he were there, that reprimanding tone saved just for when he was doing something particularly stupid.)
(Ben wasn't there. He was gone.)
Klaus blinked at Lila again before pulling the door open wider and shuffling to the side. "Come in."

Five looks down at the table, taking a moment to think before sighing.
“I know I’ve only been back for a couple of weeks, but I’ve noticed shit, okay? I know the signs of loneliness all too well, and the fact that you’re constantly talking to yourself is a huge red flag.”
