Skywalker had snapped his head over his shoulder to look at him, mouth open slightly in surprise as his head tilted in silent question. Din met his gaze through the T-visor, though there was no way for Luke to reliably return the gesture. The Jedi always managed it anyway. “Do you feel it’s more important to carry on the tradition, even incomplete than let it die completely? Dar’johay’cuy?”

When Luke has to leave the Jedi Acadamy to try and locate an ancient Jedi Temple with some old friends, Din finds himself taking care of three Force-Sensitive children back on Mandalore. -

“You’ve got to be joking,” Izzy said. Three of Bonnet’s men were circling around him with weapons trained; Black Pete had taken his sword up with gusto and that Swede fellow had gotten his hands on a spear and was having great fun jabbing it at Izzy’s backside. The taffrail door had been open and one of the gangplanks strapped down so it hung over the edge of the ship, over open water instead of the deck of a raided ship. Izzy stood at the base of it, forearms lashed together at his back.
“Don’t let my generally affable nature deter you Izzy, I am most certainly not,” Bonnet said.

"Why -" he gestures expansively towards Jaskier, his lute, the forest around them, his swords now strapped to Roach "- are you doing this?"
A bard seeking fortune wouldn't watch Geralt across the fire with eyes half-full of tears that he didn't bother to blink away. An artist looking for a muse wouldn't press close, desperately close, against Geralt's side until he finally gave in and turned his head. A young man after a quick fuck wouldn't grip Geralt to him hard enough to bruise even a witcher.
The way Jaskier looks at Geralt makes him think he should know the answer already, but he doesn't, he doesn't.
"Because I know you," he says at last. "Because I have known you. Because I will know you. Isn't that enough?"
(One day, Geralt will understand that it was the closest thing Jaskier will ever have to a goodbye, and it's enough, it's enough.)

“I’m sorry, did you say eleven years old?” Ratthi asked, because humans can’t play back bits of conversations that they didn’t hear and are always asking each other to repeat things, much to the annoyance of any contracted SecUnits being forced to listen in and record everything they say to be sold for advertising data.
“Yes,” Gurathin confirmed, and then everyone was staring at me and looking all shocked and sad and whatever.
“Constructs don’t age the same way humans do,” I reminded them, before anyone could start thinking anything stupid like oh no, Murderbot is just a little kid and little kids shouldn’t be doing security and eleven year olds shouldn’t have guns in their arms. "Eleven is old for a SecUnit. Most of my inorganics are already past warranty.”
Except, because I’m an idiot, that didn’t make it better. It actually made it worse, because now even Dr. Mensah was making a concerned face at me.Bookmarked by JackFool
