Every reason was solid, backed by evidence, and completely justifiable. but Flame realized, all 99 reasons were just clumsy attempts to disguise the one reason he truly couldn't face.

“But they retained divine favor despite making the country worse. If people can retain divine favor despite objectively being bad for the kingdom, why should we respect the system at all?”
Wemmbu laughed, though there wasn’t much humor in it. “That’s a dangerous thing for a King to be saying, Flame.”
“I’m not thinking of undermining the Gods. I just want to know why. I need to know if it’s possible for Suits to retain favor, even if their intentions are impure. Like, the King and Jack had good intentions but terrible execution, and they were still blessed until the day they died. So what if a Suit member isn’t morally redeemable, but isn’t harming the kingdom. Can they retain favor with one and not the other?”
“You’re wondering,” Wemmbu said slowly, “if morality and dedication are the only factors of this equation, and whether or not having both is even necessary.”
OR:
Haunted by the past and missing one of their own Suit, the Kingdom of Spades is under threat by enemies that hide in the shadows. Wemmbu can do little to help in his capacity as courier; thankfully, he can do much more to help his home as an assassin.
