“Perhaps,” Rui spoke up for the first time, her voice cold and crisp as she looked directly at Wumuti, “the West wouldn’t be blamed for so many scandals, if their heiress acted like a princess for once, instead of some common soldier’s favourite pastime.”
“I suppose someone is finally growing a spine,” Wumuti snarked back coldly, “and here I was starting to think all you could do for your kingdom was cry. Tell me, does tears count as merit in the North, or do you have anything else of value you can contribute with if your country needs you?”

“Rui,” Wumuti whispered, sounding almost out of breath, “I hate saying those things to you- I hate hurting you, but my God, do you look hot when you get angry.”
“I know,” Rui whispered teasingly, before pulling her closer once more, “I know you hate it, but I also know you love the payoff afterwards.”(...)
“If you’re really sorry,” Rui said, as she pulled back once more, “then prove it."
Or, everyone thinks Princess Rui and Princess Wumuti despise each other - they couldn't be more wrong.

“Why does fate have to be so cruel,” Rui muttered, as a single tear trailed down his cheek.
Letting his shirt fall back down into place, and once again covering up the mark, Rui looked his own reflection in the eyes; he had made up his mind.
‘I’ll stay by his side for as long as I can. For as long as he wants me there. I’ll never tell him. He doesn’t have to know- doesn’t have to suffer. I could never do that to him. I love him.’

“I’m not here to socialize,” Rui said stiffly, as she looked down on the tea and bread in her hands.
“I know,” Wumuti whispered softly, as she slowly made her way back over to her chair, before sitting back down once more.Or, Rui was sent down to the mortal realm to locate a fallen angel, but Wumuti, the fallen angel, is nothing like any fallen angel Rui had ever met before.
