Shinichi gritted his teeth. “I don’t believe in them.”
She steepled her fingers and leaned over the cards on the table, a smirk widening her blood-red lips. “Well, they most certainly believe in you.”

Shinichi thought he had his future set in stone. He was bound to marry his betrothed and fulfill his duties to make the realm a safer place for everyone. What he didn't account for was that the darkness lurking in the shadows was more potent and sinister than he could have ever imagined. And only a mysterious masked man could help him stop it.

The thief’s willingly exposed face registered only for a split second before the hand fell limply to the ground, the jewel and monocle falling into the spreading puddle of blood around them.
“Keep your eyes open, you bastard! Stay with me!” Shinichi fumbled for the pulse in KID’s neck, but the weak fluttering under his fingers soon disappeared.
He had no idea how long he knelt next to KID’s body in the pool of congealing blood, but by the end he felt raw and hollow, like his insides had been carved out with a knife.
