Summary
When six year old Sherlock gets bored, he calls help lines to report his brother for the horrible abuse of putting him in time out and making him eat peas. It's all fun and games until suddenly, a new inspector arrives. Now, instead of scolding him for abusing help lines, he's being told how brave he is to reach out. And now the inspector is telling him his name isn't even Sherlock Moriarty? And that he had been kidnapped when he was three? Surely this is just another 'scare him straight' method. That can't be true. All Sherlock wants is to go home to Jim. And maybe take his new friend/foster brother John with him.

Next to Sherlock -- aristocratic skull and glossy black coat and really just unfeasibly enormous -- John was small and fuzzy and ginger, with a flat, grumpy little face. Greg, who knew about John's previous life as an alley cat, petted round John's left ear exactly once, and John showed his appreciation for the affection by not clawing Greg's fingers off.

He glances around, and then cautiously turns down an alley. There's a spot here, in the angle formed by two walls: he might be able to snatch a few hours' sleep.
Tomorrow – today now – is the thirtieth. Saturday. He's got enough change in his pockets for two cups of tea – one Saturday, one Sunday. Load them with sugar, for the calories, and that's breakfast. Lunch … walk, same as today. Dinner, a cup of hot water with a sachet or two of sauce, call it tomato soup. Just two more days, then it will be the first of the month and his pension will be in. Just two more days. Not that long.
