The Tale of the Witch of the West and her Prince, by Dorothy L. Gale

The records during the Wizard’s corrupt reign, some 80 years ago, are scarce and poorly preserved - just one more thing that the Wizard took from the people of Oz. Dorothy Gale and other historians take it upon themselves to unravel hidden secrets as everything people think they know about the story of Elphaba Thropp and Fiyero Tigelaar needs to be re-examined in order to discover the truth

    ---

The tale of the Wicked Witch of the West takes a dark turn after a twister changes the trajectory of her fate

“Oh, my Oz, Elphie! They are from a secret admirer!” Galinda practically bounced in place, the paper held aloft like a prize.

“So?” she said. “That’s hardly worth bursting an eardrum.”

But Galinda’s eyes sparkled in a very specific, unsettling way.

    “But they’re for you!”

    Or,

someone has been leaving flowers at Elphaba’s door for weeks, and she’s certain it’s a cruel joke—until the notes start feeling like truth, and she starts hoping, and maybe falling, for the one person she thought would never see her like that.

    Summary

And then she saw it — the shattered edge of the path.

A broken shelf of ice and stone, like something had collapsed.

And beneath it, half-buried in snow, a dark shape.

“No,” she whispered. “No, no, no—”

She scrambled down the slope, slipping, half-falling, catching herself with hands that stung from the cold. Her knees hit the snow hard as she reached him.

    “Fiyero—!”

    Or,

Fiyero didn’t really know when he fell — from the ridge or for her — only that both hurt like hell, and that Elphaba’s hands, shaking and warm with magic and fury, were the only thing that ever caught him.
