"You mean 'we'll make it,'" Beau said, as an icy feeling crept up her spine. "Right, Deuces? We'll make it out."
"No," he said, and that same soft, grim smile was back. "I meant you."
There was a beat of silence where Beau just breathed.
"What," she said, trying to keep her voice measured even as her thoughts spun out. "Why the fuck do you think I would leave without you?"
    "You have to," he said.
    "Why?"
"My last question to Melora," Caduceus replied. He looked regretful, almost chagrined.
"What was it?" Beau said, dread creeping up the base of her skull.

    --------------
Beau and Caduceus are lost beneath the snows of Eisselcross, separated from the group. And time is running out for one of them.

No. No, no. This hadn’t been– this was not his intention– Cad has gone still, too, beneath his hands, and Caleb wants to yank away from him at the mere suggestion of doing this to his friend, but he can’t move, still locked in place from horror. He lifts his gaze to finally, stupidly, look at Caduceus now. At the discomfort in his eyes and the faint flush of embarrassment on his cheeks, almost mottled pink beneath bruised pale skin. Caleb just– stares. Because whatever had been bad, has just gotten worse.

    Summary

“Are you sick?" he said. "Lu Guang, do you need to throw up?"

Lu Guang wanted to sob. He didn't know what to do. He hid in his apartment ever since he arrived in Guidu, convinced that he could live with that hunger so long as he could finally make friends. That the pains in his stomach were something he could simply push through so long as it meant he didn't have to stay in that cold, lonely keep. That maybe he wasn't the mindless, bloodthirsty beast the world thought him as.

But the hunger hurt. It hurt every centimetre of his body until he shook from the weight of it. And all he wanted to do was bite down on his only friend's neck.

"I need to eat," Lu Guang cried.

    Summary

The living Danny—maybe playing along, or maybe responding genuinely—raised both hands in a show of harmlessness. Like Lancer truly had him at gunpoint.

Danny Fenton’s wet cold dead body was so heavy in Lancer’s single cradling arm.

“Who are you?” Lancer asked very simply.

And Danny, arms still raised high, let out a sigh deep enough to deflate his shoulders. Whatever light was in his eyes went dull, resigned to an acceptance Lancer could not in the moment understand.

“I am your worst student,” Danny answered. And he lowered one arm exclusively to point. “And THAT is the dead body of my ghost clone.”

    -------

Alone on the farthest outskirts of Amity Park, Danny Fenton and Edward Lancer bury the dead body of Danny's clone. It is long and tedious work, and Danny can't dodge Lancer's questions forever. Surely it's only fair of Lancer to demand to know what he has been pulled into. Surely Danny could use someone on his side, now that his evenings are spent burying his clones.

'The passion caused by the great and sublime in nature, when those causes operate most powerfully, is astonishment; and astonishment is that state of the soul, in which all its motions are suspended, with some degree of horror… A mode of terror or pain is always the cause of the sublime.'
