But sometimes, things change. He can deal with the dry eye, after all. There are hurt, hungry sea strays up for adoption, apparently, and he’s always been fond of cats, no matter what shape or size they come in…
And Hizashi seems to agree, once you ignore how weird he’s been behaving lately.
Alternatively: Shouta stumbles upon a hurt merperson, and he’ll be dammed if he doesn’t help it. Things just kind of escalate from there.
