Summary
Viktor shifted. “The arcane is a force to be reckoned with, and it is not dismissed easily. When we used the rune to rectify my mistake, we were pulled into it as well. I was able to escape because of my connection to the hexcore.” His gaze drifted to the rune in her hand. He frowned. “Jayce wasn’t. I worry that they would simply confiscate the rune without hearing me out.”
Mel looked at the rune as it seemed to hum ever-so-slightly. “He’s still in there,” she said. Relief flooded her, and a kind of joy she hadn’t felt since before the battle at Piltover.Or: in the aftermath of their decision to reverse the conversion, Jayce ends up trapped in the rune. Viktor follows Mel to Noxus to ask for her help and together they learn how to use their arcane abilities and investigate the Black Rose.

Summary
Jayce longed to be understood, to be accepted and loved. It drove him to be a chronic people pleaser, something Mel had leveraged shamelessly. But circumstances being as they were, Viktor knew he would always be found wanting by Piltover, and so he developed a certain apathy for approval.
This had caused no small amount of friction between the two as Jayce's social obligations ballooned and Viktor's health deteriorated. Mel had known, intellectually. But watching Jayce crumble under the doctor's emotionless recitation of Viktor's prognosis changed everything.
