Summary
In the end, it doesn’t matter. None of it fucking matters. Because what’s really in control is the tension. This elusive string tied between their chests that’s always changing length. Right now it’s so short and taught and strong that Will can’t imagine resisting it. So really, it was never a matter of if he would. Just when. When will he fold? When will he let go and let himself follow Mike into the water?
He dares to glance down at his knees, where he can see Mike’s fingers peeking out from behind his calves (as if he needed that visual reminder that they’re touching), and then back up to meet Mike’s expectant gaze.
He’s going to do it. He’s such a fucking idiot.
OR
Mike & Will have a long overdue conversation on the way back to Hawkins— by, in, and around a random motel pool.

Summary
Split second of darkness. Lance huffing their oxygen in like it is unlimited. Dull thud. That’s definitely going to bruise if he keeps it up.
“Lance,” Keith bit out, without meaning too, “You are kicking me every time you do that. Stop squirming.”
Lance gasped in offense, his voice pitched high and whiny, “I am not kicking you! You just put your legs on my side of the pod!”
Keith took a deep breath through his nose, wasting about one full minute of their oxygen supply. He kept his eyes, dutifully, off Lance’s face. He didn’t want to look at him. He didn’t want to have one of his Lance Freakouts this up-close and personal with the subject of the freakouts.
***Or, Keith and Lance get stuck in a pod, with less than a foot between them. It would be making Keith blush like a schoolgirl, but his blood is rushing elsewhere- the massive hole in his gut he's trying to hide from Lance.

Summary
Immediately, Keith narrowed his eyes, sitting up. “My brother and I have been playing this game since we were kids. I’m not scared.” And that right there – the set of Keith’s jaw, the fiery glint in his eyes, the sharpness in his tone – is how Lance knew he had him. He felt a twinge of satisfaction. Keith was so predictable.
“Prove it, then,” he challenged, standing and placing a hand on his hip. “Let’s call it a bet.”
Keith looked skeptical. “With what stakes?”
“Whoever wins gets to ask for whatever they want from the other person,” Lance spoke slowly, taking a careful step towards his rival. “Within reason, of course.”
- Or, Keith and Lance play Mario Kart, and, as usual, Lance makes it interesting…

Summary
“It has everything you need,” said the salesman. “And everything you want. And everything you just….” He squinted, pinching his fingers together as if trying to recall something. “Everything you forgot you needed.”
“Uh huh,” said Keith. “Sounds legit.”
-
A dubious trade for some machine parts leads Keith to making a deal with an shifty salesman, or more specifically, the magic box in his possession. But the trade comes at a price, and slowly but surely, Keith realizes that everyone and everything is beginning to forget him.

"They’ve had plenty of arguments about it. No, hair doesn’t count. No, shoes don’t count. Get off your tiptoes, Lance. (Keith admits that maybe, maybe Lance is an inch or so taller than him.)"
