He mistakes the way his heart skips a beat when she walks in for the first signs of heartburn from drinking too much coffee. Never mind that he forgets what UPS is, never mind that she’s sunshine personified. He feels like he’s been frozen forever, and it’s like maybe he could thaw out just by seeing her smile at him.

“I—I am? It’s not Gina Ormewood? Or Angie Polaski?” Faith stutters, eyes popping wide with surprise.
“No, ma’am. It says right here, ‘Emergency Contact, Faith Mitchell,’” she says. “You’re his partner?”
Tenant, Faith thinks. Roommate. Friend. “Yes, that’s right, I—I’m his partner,” she says, feeling stunned, like she’s just taken a concussive blow.
AKA Five times someone mistakenly thinks Faith and Ormewood are dating and two times someone mistakenly assumes they aren't.

Now, Sydney sat, rocking, on the L. It surprised her that it was running. One of the stranger things Sydney missed about driving was the radio, so, at times, she would listen via an app. There was a lot of garbage, but sometimes, there’d be a station that was a needle in a haystack.
She searched and searched and almost gave up before she heard it - a sweet, little voice on the radio.
“Hi, my name’s Sophia,” the voice said. Sydney pushed her airpods further in her ear. The radio host, a lady, a supposed doctor, replied.
“Hi Sophia, how old are you, sweetheart?”
“Seven.”
Sydney put her hand on her chest. She was so stinking cute.
“What’s the matter, Sophia?”
“It’s my uncle. My Uncle Bear. He’s really sad. I think he needs a friend. Or a girlfriend.”
