    Summary

“A meeting,” Tony doesn’t even bother to hide his incredulity.

    “Yes.”

“With the Galactic Empire,” he attempts to lighten his own mood with the joke, but the response he gets from Ross makes the blood freeze in his veins.

“They call themselves the Unitary Galactic Communia, actually.”

If Tony lets his silence speak for itself, it’s only partially because his throat is closing up on him at an alarming rate.

“I know it sounds bad at first—“

“Oh no no no, not at all,” Tony interjects quickly, “this is wonderful news. A communia. A unitary one. Sounds very… organized. They must be people who know how to keep an army. Of galactic proportions. This is great, really. Not debilitatingly frightening in the least.”

    ...
Alternatively: the freshly pardoned Rogues have complaints, Tony is dead on his feet, and Steve has issues with the handsome alien lord who keeps offering Stark the literal universe.

    Summary

“I just didn’t want you to get hurt.” Welt frowned. “I panicked.”

“Happens to the best of us.” Einstein patted him on the back lightly. “It’s alright.”

They sat like that for a while, in companionable silence. Nothing between them and nothing around them, but the world in its beautiful stillness.

“Why did you give me the name Welt?” The man in question asked suddenly.

As expected, however, the scientist gave no answer - she only smiled cryptically. “Maybe you should ask someone else.”

OR: Einstein, Tesla, Joachim and Joyce, on the topic of the name Welt.

    Summary

“I think,” Welt says out loud, “it’s okay to be a little selfish sometimes.”

    “Really?”

Dan Heng sounds like he doesn’t believe him. Welt can’t blame him.

Nonetheless, he continues. “I’ve mentored a group of kids much like you all. Young, energetic, and hearts too big for their own good.” Welt sighs. “They didn’t have the time to be selfish, too busy being heroes. So if there is room for you to be selfish, then at least the burdens of the world are not placed on your shoulders.”

“Someone has to be a hero eventually.”

“‘The tragedy does not lie in the sacrifices we’ve made for our victory - it is that we’ve accustomed ourselves to the fact that we must sacrifice someone for our victory,’” Welt recites, an age-old lesson that took him far too long to understand. “If you have something to call your own, that you can be selfish for, then the world has not failed you yet, Dan Heng.”

Dan Heng has nothing to say to that, but Welt thinks that he might get it.

Or, not yet. Just like how Welt didn’t get it, once.

    But he will, with time.

OR: Welt, The Astral Express, Anti-Entropy, and then some - on the topics of moving on from the past, healing, and a long journey home.

    Summary

    “Before what?” demanded Jordie.
Inej’s gaze bored into them, for a moment. Finally, she said:
“Before I try to convince Kaz that you’re not imposters, that he should have strangled and thrown into the harbour.”
Jordie’s neck prickled, thinking of the hard-eyed stare in the Crow Club.
“I’ve been in enough harbours for one lifetime, thank you.” he said.
He was rewarded with a very faint smile.
“...you’re not as dissimilar as he’d like, you know.”
    --
besting impossible odds is apparently a genetic trait, because jordie is definitely not as dead as kaz thought.
    or dead at all.
