“Didn’t anyone ever tell you not to torment your food?”
It felt as if the voice was trailing cold fingers up her spine, alighting something deep and instinctual that yelled at her to flee. The rabbit in her grasp must have felt similarly, squirming away from her in a panic. Annette looked up to find ethereal blue eyes glowing amongst the shadows, before a tall man stepped out of the darkness as if he'd been a part of it. His eyes gleamed, flashing a fanged grin.
“Me neither,” he said in answer to himself, baring a clawed hand in threat.
Annette stood, machete raised. “Who are you? What do you want?”
“Oh, little deer, all alone in the woods.” He shook his head while leisurely walking a circle around her, voice oddly playful. “You should be more careful after running into a wolf.”
His eyes gleamed, and he winked. Annette’s breath caught. The wolf from before, it had been him. She wasn’t being hunted by a mere animal.
She was being hunted by a monster.

Peter’s day started with a tingle of his spidey senses. He’d just walked on campus; the crisp September air of his fourth year in journalism was a welcome way to start the school year, and this was the first year it’d started with a tingle.
He whipped his head around, jostling a few nearby students who just sleepily walked around him. It wasn’t the usual tingle; it wasn’t a DANGER A BUILDING HAS BEEN THROWN AT YOU tingle. It was… something else. Something he hadn’t felt before.

Salim opened the door to the candlelit room, quickly shutting it behind him as he saw Jason sitting at the head of the bed, back against the wall, legs spread. He was fully dressed, hat and all, other than his open fly, eyeing Salim like he was an oasis in a desert.
“Hey Salim,” Jason’s voice rasped, “I’ve got a seat for you, right here.”
Apparently the wine at dinner had them both feeling bold. As if they hadn’t been circling each other for weeks. Was a shared bottle of merlot all it took?
