When he makes it to the small clearing, quick footsteps come up behind him, and before he can turn around, someone tries to shove him. Astonishingly, his center of gravity is on his side and he plants his feet in time, holding his ground. Spinning around, he puts his fists up and freezes when he sees himself panting and angry with fists clenched to his sides.
“Woah, trippy,” Eddie remarks. Tommy dressed him poorly today—the absence of his battle vest is going to draw a lot of attention from his comrades.
“What the fuck did you do to me, freak?!”
“Tommy?” Eddie doublechecks, hopeful that their game of musical bodies is only between the two of them and not some other third party.
“Yes! Did you fucking curse me? What the shit is this?!”

If he’s being honest with himself, that deep-seated sense of wrongness started a long time before he presented. He still doesn’t feel perfect. There’s a lump in the back of his throat if he lets himself think past the here and now, but it’s different, because sitting there on the edge of the hotel mattress watching Eddie test the water temperature before plugging up the bath also makes him feel lighter than he has in years.
