After he whisked his parents to London for better care, Mycroft soon realised that he hadn’t considered the risk of hosting his parents as unexpected houseguests during her recovery.     "I know I don't." But Sherlock leaves anyway, spurred by equal parts anger and shame. He promises to be back in 30 minutes with the forgotten milk for Rosie's evening meal.

    He does not return.

    Later, John will think of that last glimpse of Sherlock's face, the tired hurt, the start of tears. He will think that maybe Sherlock has simply decided to be done with this, to be done with him.

    Still, maybe he'd better call Greg, see if anyone's caught a glimpse of the man. Just in case.

     

    Across town, Sherlock plots escape but hopes for rescue, trapped in a situation that he cannot talk his way out of.
