"I know I don't." But Sherlock leaves anyway, spurred by equal parts anger and shame. He promises to be back in 30 minutes with the forgotten milk for Rosie's evening meal.
He does not return.
Later, John will think of that last glimpse of Sherlock's face, the tired hurt, the start of tears. He will think that maybe Sherlock has simply decided to be done with this, to be done with him.
Still, maybe he'd better call Greg, see if anyone's caught a glimpse of the man. Just in case.
Across town, Sherlock plots escape but hopes for rescue, trapped in a situation that he cannot talk his way out of.

Greg hummed softly to himself before a plan formed in his head. “Hey… Sherlock?”
“hmm?”“What if we fake date?”
“Are you fucking kidding me?!” Sherlock parroted what his friend said a minute ago.
Greg shrugged. “Just a thought.”
“For you to play cupid!”
“……. that too.”
Sherlock groaned as he rolled his eyes. “You are a terrible person.”
“I am an amazing person! And an amazing friend! If this goes to plan, I might be correct with him and his feelings for you.” Greg stared down at his friend as he played with his curls. They don’t normally do this. So Greg was enjoying the closeness between the two of them.

John Watson needs a tutor to pass high school. Sherlock Holmes being the only one available, Mary suggests John should try it out, for her well- being. Once the two meet, there was no going back to their old lives. -

…as much as I envied his irrefutable necessity in the lives of others, I also pitied the responsibility that seemed to place on his shoulders.
To be an archetype and an antihero, but never a person.
If I could be a ledge of humanity upon which his entirely mortal hand could find purchase during his freefall, I would do it.
I could play that part. For him.Del and Sherlock are both the same in the worst ways: damaged geniuses addicted to self-destruction. Del is trying to rebuild her life and Sherlock, left to his own devices, seems intent on dismantling his own. Their meeting is the perfect opportunity to either make things better or a whole lot worse.
