"Are you alright?" He asks, kicking at his thigh lightly.
Phainon hums, gaze still thousands of years away before it refocuses sharply on Mydei. "When am I not?" He asks, lips tilting in what's shaping up to be a smirk.
"Do you want me to answer that?" Mydei asks drily, crossing his arms.

Mydei pins him down with firm hands and says, low and urgent, “Listen—the people think you can bear a child.”
Phainon blinks at him. Mydei waits for him to sputter, to laugh. To refute him and call the very notion ridiculous, and launch into an hours-long exposition on the sheer absurdity of such a statement.
His husband does none of that.

Summary
He and Mydei still get into fights all the time actually, but it’s different now. Now, after a fight, Phainon fluffs the pillows on the couch while Mydei takes a pint of blueberry-yuzu gelato out of the freezer, the one they always keep stocked for post-fight nights. Then, they’ll curl up on the couch, side by side with one spoon between them, and watch whatever show is trending on Netflix.
Recently they’ve been going through an adaptation of one of Mydei’s favorite novel series. Phainon has been trying to get them to fight again so they can watch the next episode.
Mydei plans a dinner night for their friends. Phainon is his in-house, nonnegotiable sous-chef who also happens to believe that Mydei is undateable.

Summary
“Mydei,” he murmurs, simply because he can’t help it - he’s so close, so bare, eyes closed and spine unguarded. Phainon’s the only one who can see him like this, the only one he trusts to bare his back to - despite falling to his sword, cycle after cycle. He’s unconditionally placed this vulnerability in Phainon’s hands, and Phainon feels weak with the intimacy of it.
He finds himself leaning in, down, brushing his lips against the spot he’s so cruelly pierced countless times before. He feels the breath Mydei draws in surprise, the tensing of muscle under his lips.
“Feeling sentimental?” Mydei growls, voice low. “What are you thinking about now?”
“Nothing,” Phainon says, too-casual, too obvious. So he amends with, “I love you.”

Summary
The rustle of fabric, the sound of a sigh. Something warm is draped around Phainon’s shoulders. A blood-red, shiny coat. The inside is terribly soft, and that smell—Mydei’s smell—clings to it too. “At least wear a jacket if you’re going to be stubborn,” he says, and he’s still standing there when Phainon turns his head to look. He’s left in a tight black t-shirt, arms bare and folded against the chill, ruffled but pretending not to be.
Phainon’s chest hurts. “What about you?” he asks.
“I’m fine,” Mydei says.
“You’re shivering.”

Summary
In no universe should he have to witness Mydei’s hand linger on Phainon’s shoulder for a moment longer than what two friends consider proper, and then watch as Mydei flexes his hand right afterwards, clearly so affected by it. Like something straight out of March’s romance novels.
Seriously, Phainon’s eyes had softened when he looked at Mydei. Multiple times. In public! And here Caelus thought eyes could only soften in Jing Yuan fanfiction.
Dan Heng gives him a look. “Phainon and Mydei are good friends. They’re bound to bicker every once in a while.”
Caelus sits up, wholly indignant. “Have you seen them,” he demands.

Summary
Mydei leans away from the dromas at the sight of him. He looks the same as he always does: scowl in place, dressed and armored in Kremnoan attire. Yet in Phainon’s preheat vision, Mydei is achingly handsome—sleek lines, sharp angles, and a ruggedness from years on the battlefield.
Phainon’s thighs grow wet.
“What took you so long?” Mydei snaps. “We’re heading to a negotiation, not a field trip. No need to bring all your outfits."
“What if I want to impress the stakeholder?” Phainon jests, adjusting his tunic to hide his lower torso. He falters, however, when he notices Mydei’s sharp hazel eyes fixed on the slick staining his front. For a moment, Phainon feels raw and exposed, shame creeping up his neck. Mydei’s breathing pauses, the pace slowing to something deeper and more indulgent, before he looks away.
“We have a long journey ahead,” Mydei murmurs. “Pace yourself.”
Phainon sets out on a mission with Mydei, determined to maintain the facade of being a beta despite his preheat. But then his full-blown heat strikes at the worst possible time.
Mydei takes care of him.
