He could have killed her. She could have ran. But instead, curiously got the two of them to step closer.
He was trying to remember who he was, before the infection, before becoming what he actually was. She was trying to escape what she was, and trying to become a different person.
Samson, the feared alpha infected, is changing. Fragments of his life before the infection resurface in his mind, and broken words slip from his mouth. The treatments Dr. Ian Kelson once forced upon him may have worked after all.
Elena, a young survivor living in hiding with her group, encounters Samson by the river while gathering water for their farm.
As the infected monster and the human survivor flee together, the line between what Samson was—and what he might still become—begins to blur.

It had the same coloring as he did. “Apricot seeds, as you asked.”
Months after Aslevjal, Fitz and Beloved have settled down to recover in their cabin near Tradeford. Knowing his fondness for the fruit, Fitz discovers a way for Beloved to have apricots whenever he wanted.
