“Dianxia!”
“Ah, the lack of sleep recently must really be getting to me,” Xie Lian remarks out loud to Ruoye, curled around his wrist. “That or you’ve suddenly learned how to talk.”
Ruoye wiggles but doesn’t answer beyond that because it’s a silk band and obviously it hasn’t really learned how to talk.
“Right,” Xie Lian sighs. He kneels down by the river he’s been walking along and reaches out to splash some water on his face to wake himself up…which is when he sees it. Looking up at him from the water is a mask so familiar it hurts: a white, wooden mask with a carved smile.
He’s so startled he nearly falls in. “Wu Ming?”

Xie Lian feels his shoulders instinctively relax at the mellow, bored voice cutting in to save the day. The Earth Master steps forward from the shadows, coming to stand at Xie Lian’s side without an ounce of shame or embarrassment. Xie Lian’s relief is short-lived, however, when he hears the murmurs of confusion that ripple through the room.
Wait. No. This will just cause even more problems — how on earth is he going to explain how he knows Ming Yi?!

His hands brushed over what seemed like soft sheets on a mattress and then immediately came to a brusque halt when they touched something unmistakable.
Skin. The bare skin of someone's hand just mere inches away from him. His eyes flew open and the sight they were met with shocked him frozen.
On a nice bed, covered in sheets finer than anything he ever owned in his mortal life, resting on a pillow so close he could feel the warmth seeping from his body, was Xie Lian. Asleep, relaxed, a soft smile adorning his slightly parted lips, Xie Lian was sleeping with a peaceful expression, something that Wuming hadn't seen on him for many long years.
or: Hua Cheng and Xie Lian both fall victim to the memory monster. A barely out of Yong'an Wuming wakes up next to pre-third ascension Xie Lian and doesn't exactly know how to deal with that.

For a split second he wonders if an angrier asshole version of himself from an alternate universe, someone who spelled their name wrong and snubbed his nose at basic rules of grammar, had somehow found a way to pester him while he tried to prevent, by studying, at least one aspect of his life from crumbling into utter ruin. Then the split second passes and Yuuri reins in the insanity long enough to venture a rational approach.
Yuuri: Yuri who?
Three seconds later his phone rings.
